Elections for municipal government are held every four years on the fourth Monday of October.

The Township appreciates opportunities to offer commemorative certificates for Nipigon residents who are celebrating milestone birthdays and anniversaries.
Birthday Certificates can be requested beginning at age 65, and in increments of five years.
Anniversary Certificates can be requested beginning at the 25th anniversary, and in increments of five years.
Please submit your request at least two weeks prior to the event and one month prior if you wish for the Mayor or his delegate to present the certificate in person.

Personal information, as defined in the Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, is collected under the authority of the Municipal Act, 2001, and in accordance with Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (MFIPPA). Personal information collected on the application form will be used to assist in contacting citizens or organizations who have requested a signed commemorative certificate. The Township of Nipigon offers the services of an experienced Marriage Officiant to make your day as special as possible.
Civil marriage ceremonies can be performed at the Municipal Office or a location of your choosing during regular hours and dependent on availability.
A pre-ceremony meeting must be scheduled with the Marriage Officiant in order to provide the proper service and to prepare a personalized wedding experience. Couples are encouraged to book their pre-ceremony meeting and their wedding date well in advance to avoid disappointment and ensure services are available on your preferred date, and to your highest expectations.
Fee: Marriage License $100.00
Ceremony $200.00 during office hours. Services may be provided outside of regular hours or offsite at the discretion of the officiant. Fee $275.00
The Township of Nipigon provides Commissioner of Oaths services. We take affidavits, commission oaths and declarations. The CAO and Deputy Clerk are commissioners for the municipality. You are responsible for the content and correctness of the document you are getting commissioned.

The Council of the Township of Nipigon consists of a Mayor and four council members. Municipal Councils serve a 4-year term as per the Municipal Elections Act.
Council provides direction for municipal operations, with policy-making being a key responsibility. Council objectives are to ensure that the municipality’s financial and administrative resources are being used as efficiently as possible. Generally, Council monitors the implementation of its approved policies and programs, but the practical aspects of implementation are a staff responsibility.
Individuals who submit written correspondence or information to the Township should be aware that any personal information contained in their communications may become part of the public record and made available to the public through the Council Agenda process or that of a committee of Council or a local board.
