The Nipigon District Memorial Hospital is a 37 bed accredited multi-level community care facility meeting the health care needs of the acute, chronic and long term care patient. The facility, equipment and fully-qualified staff can handle a variety of in-patient, out-patient and rehabilitative problems. Care is provided by four (4) family medicine physicians, one Nurse Practitioner, Registered Nurses and Registered Practical Nurses. The Nipigon District Memorial Hospital aims to provide quality health care services to the residents it serves, and to promote health care education and improved community health through the integration and coordination of community health programs such as Meals-On-Wheels, HandiTransit, Lifeline, Telephone Assurance, Senior Day Care and Respite Care.

The Township of Nipigon is served by two schools and school boards. The George O'Neill Public School which is provided by the Superior Greenstone District School Board and St. Edward's Separate School provided by the Superior North Catholic District School Board.

Both schools provide programming for students from junior kindergarten through grade 8. Students in Grades 9 through OAC attend the Nipigon-Red Rock District High School in Red Rock.

Superior North Literacy provides education assistance to Nipigon residents. As well, Contact North Distance Education Program allows adults to further their education from within their own community and Lakehead University and Confederation college are located in nearby Thunder Bay for those wishing to continue on to post-secondary education.

Nipigon has a very pleasant climate, which makes it a comfortable place in which to live. Summers are warm, but not overly hot, allowing for residents and visitors to comfortably participate in the many of the outdoor activities available. While Winter tends to be somewhat colder, the climate provides the opportunity to enjoy winter recreation as well as the natural beauty of the area in winter.
