The Land of the Nipigon Chamber of Commerce was established in May of 1988. People in business in Nipigon recognized the need to develop a collective voice of business people not only in their community, but also from the surrounding municipalities. Combined, they could work together to help sustain existing business, assist in the development of new business and help promote the area while making the communities known for their friendly atmosphere and ethical business practices.

The committee was then incorporated as a not-for-profit organization and continues to serve the areas of Beardmore, Dorion, Hurkett, Lake Helen, Nipigon and Red Rock. Currently, the Land of the Nipigon Chamber of Commerce has Directors from each community. This allows all communities a voice regarding the business of the Chamber.

The Land of the Nipigon Chamber of Commerce, as well as its entire membership, is an active member of the Northern Ontario Associated Chambers of Commerce (NOACC) and the Ontario Chamber of Commerce. This gives our businesses an opportunity to lobby for the businesses and communities on both a provincial and federal level.

The main objective of the Chamber is to support the businesses in our communities by providing a forum where business people can address their concerns. We are also the sponsoring agent for programs in our communities that work to benefit local citizens.

Mission Statement:

The mission of the Land of the Nipigon Chamber of Commerce is to serve its members, to act as the collective voice of business, industry and the professions; to maintain and strengthen a prosperous business climate within its region and to enhance the quality of life in the communities of Dorion, Hurkett, Red Rock, Nipigon, Lake Helen, MacDiarmid and Beardmore.

Chamber Objectives

Attracting customers to the Township of Dorion, Hurkett, Red Rock, Nipigon, Lake Helen, MacDiarmid and Beardmore and creating an atmosphere which will encourage customers to return;

Promoting and encouraging fair and courteous dealings with customers;

Promoting and encouraging ethical business practices;

Promoting fellowship among people in business in the Townships of Dorion, Hurkett, Red Rock, Nipigon, Lake Helen, MacDiarmid and Beardmore;

Promoting and fostering community spirit and engaging in work of moral, benevolent and community service nature for the residents of the Townships of Dorion, Hurkett, Red Rock, Nipigon, Lake Helen, MacDiarmid and Beardmore;

Organizing cultural and recreational events;

Pursuing interest in the civic, commercial, social and moral welfare of the community;

Providing a forum for the discussion of all matters of public interest;

Promoting the principals of good government and good citizenship.
